Sener says work on Abu Dhabi tram to start shortly
Sener, the Spanish consultant company, confirmed on Tuesday that work on Abu Dhabi’s new transport system would begin shortly. According to a news report by 7Days, the consultant said that work on phase one of the tram project will begin in the north of city, with a 30km route linking to the city centre.
New projects to boost development in Abu Dhabi
The council gave approval for construction, renovation and infrastructure projects in Liwa, Ghayathi, Al Hayer, Al-Shuaib, Bida Al Mutawaa, Mazyed, Um Ghafa, Nema, Al Salamat Umm Alashtan and Alybanh. Additional infrastructure projects will be implemented for a number of other residential districts in the north of Al Wathba, Al Falah, Mohamed bin Zayed, and Emirati neighbourhoods in metropolitan and other areas.
Etihad Railway plans for shifting sands
When construction begins on the first leg of the 1,200-kilometre Etihad railway, months of work will already have gone into research to conquer the one thing that can stop an Arabian train in its tracks: sand. Engineers can carve tunnels through mountains but the fight against sand is fought on shifting battle lines.
Abu Dhabi opens more sections in tunnel project
Abu Dhabi authorities opened more sections of a Dh5billion tunnel project to traffic on Friday as they are pushing ahead with plans for a full completion towards the end of this year or in early 2011. Officials said more than 80 per cent of the entire project has been completed and they expect the tunnel and surface roads to be fully operational within two to four months nearly four years after the project was launched.

Abu Dhabi airport moves ahead with perishable center
Officials at Abu Dhabi International Airport have completed the 6,000-square-meter first phase of a new perishable cargo terminal. Features of the completed terminal will include dedicated storage for food, a separate room for palletized goods, a Customs area and a room dedicated to food inspection.
